Engagement and Collaboration
Engagement and collaboration, with both internal and external partners, are the cornerstones of the University of Copenhagen’s work to achieve a more sustainable campus.
Involvement of students and employees in the planning and execution of sustainability campaigns is essential to the success of the University’s sustainable agenda. All employees have an influence on the university’s environmental impact through their daily conduct. Thus, it is crucial that students and employees are engaged in working toward a sustainable campus; in such a way, they reduce their environmental impact and invigorate the campaign in taking ownership of these new goals.
All three areas of focus in the University’s sustainability effort, Green Campus, research, and education, aim to inspire and enhance each other. Alongside the physical profile of the University, sustainability must also be integrated into both research and teaching. Accordingly, the development of sustainability, focusing on new and innovative solutions, will contribute to the University of Copenhagen’s advancement of sustainability.
The faculties and operating organizations are especially significant internal collaborators, and Green Campus will work closely with these sectors towards realizing initiatives and efforts. At the University of Copenhagen a number of student organizations are working with different aspects of sustainability, and collaboration with these groups is equally important.
Externally, the university is going to collaborate with a wide spectrum of important players from the field of sustainability. Collaborators range from public authorities, such as the Danish University and Property Agency and the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, to think tanks, environmental organizations and private corporations.
The University of Copenhagen’s Goals
Green Campus will work to develop networks of environmentally committed parties at the faculties and institutes, which will contribute to the communication and realization of a sustainable campus.
In 2008 Green Campus has already put 250,000 DKK towards a fund for student sustainability initiatives. The fund will be administered by Green Network and The Student Council.
The University of Copenhagen will work together with external collaborators, who can inspire and contribute to the development of concepts, methods, and concrete efforts that might facilitate the realization of a more sustainable university.
