Green Relay 

The first round of the Green Relay – a price competition on ‘the sustainable campus’ for students at Copenhagen University – is now concluded.  Copenhagen University’s strategy ‘Destination 2012’ holds an objective on developing the university to become one of Europe’s greenest campus areas. Green Relay is a mean to realise this objective.The focus has not been ‘to save the world’ but to contribute to sustainability in university’s four campus areas. This year the theme for the Green Relay has been energy. The ambition was to develop ideas for initiatives at the university’s campus areas – these could be energy saving initiatives and/or usage of alternative and sustainable energy sources. Green Relay was kicked-off the 3rd of December 2007. 

Competition conditions

The contributions could include:

  • A feature article that holds new inspiration and knowledge
  • A suggestion to an energy saving campaign
  • A method of calculating private CO2 consumption
  • A prototype of an energy saving instrument that might be commercialised

What was the prize?

The best idea was awarded a prize of 100.000dkk. which would be used to campus improvements by the choice of the winning author.  In addition, Siemens invited the best projects on a one-day tour to Siemens Wind Powers windmill factory in Denmark. 

Who won?

Student of natural resources Torben Frandsen and scientific assistant Kim Skov Jensen was awarded the 1st prize for their contribution “The Screen of Disclosure”.
