RETHINK our energy future
The conference
The global energy scene has several concerns that strongly affect decisions on energy development priorities, not least the security of supply and climate change. As part of the university's climate focus, the university is in cooperation with the student organization Energy Crossroads organizing a two day-event as run-up to COP15.
The event is called RETHINK our energy future. The event will take place on 17 and 18 November in the Ceremonial Hall at the University of Copenhagen. It is an international workshop where Danish and international students will work in groups to create an energy scenario for 2030 in a negotiation game. The vision will be discussed and suggestions for a sustainable future will be provided. The purpose of the event is to increase students' knowledge on climate change, energy related issues and energy planning.
The proceedings of the conference
The game will be played throughout the two days of the event and consists of a number of LEGO® bricks that represent energy sources and energy systems. The students have to model the energy scenarios by building towers of LEGO® bricks. Bricks of different colours correspond to various energy resources and types of power plants. In addition, there are a number of policy cards in the game that the students have to take into consideration. The cards describe changes that could be made, how much it will cost and how it affects the LEGO® towers.
During the event there will be various keynote presentations from the energy sector. These speakers deliver their views on climate change and future energy systems. RETHINK our energy future is one of the university's COP15 related events. Another event takes place on 7 December and will focus on the COP15 negotiations and climate science. Both events are an important part of the university's climate focus that include a number of climate initiatives within climate education, climate communication and campus greening.
