About the conferences
Background
The University of Copenhagen and the City of Copenhagen are hosting a series of conferences focusing on carbon neutral buildings and city districts. This initiative sprung from our collaboration on building a climate-friendly house for the University of Copenhagen placed in the centre of Copenhagen: Green Lighthouse, which will be ready in time for the UN Climate Change Conference in 2009.
The City and the University share the interest in promoting and creating a sustainable campus and city. This conference series will therefore focus on how carbon neutral buildings and city districts can be enhanced and on the barriers to implementing carbon neutral principles in the construction and planning phases.
Three Conferences on Urban Greening
The series consists of three conferences. The first conference will focus on clarifying status as well as challenges which lie ahead if carbon neutral buildings (new buildings and exiting buildings) and districts are to be promoted. It will present an overview of where we are today, the political stage, the actual building process and urban planning process and it will focus on the practical managing of the buildings.
The conference will be concluded with 10 concrete proposals as to what are the most important areas to focus on in the future in order to promote carbon neutral buildings and city districts. The second conference will take the 10 concrete proposals from the first conference a step further and prepare a charter. The third and final conference will result in a charter.
